Personal assistant
What is the role?
Being employed directly by an individual to help them with various aspects of their daily life, so they can live as independently as possible.
This usually takes place within the individual’s own home, as well as out in the community
What might it involve?
Helping the individual with a variety of tasks, such as:
- Organising social and physical activities and supporting them
- Booking appointments and accompanying them
- Getting to college, university or work
- Personal care, such as showering or dressing
- Tasks around the house, e.g. shopping, cooking and cleaning
- Monitoring their health, e.g. taking body temperature or administering medication
